Welcome to The Kinetic Insight Newsletter! And thanks so much for being an early supporter.

I’ve spent the past decade as an executive coach working with hundreds of CEO’s—from the boardrooms of the Fortune 100, to startups in shared office spaces across the globe.

I’ve had the privilege of having thousands of confidential conversations with some of the world’s greatest leaders: people who are shaping the future of technology, sustainable energy & food, and even public policy.

I got to peek behind the curtain and hear first-hand the stories & secrets of their success: High performance habits to manage 9-figure business. But perhaps more importantly, I also got to hear about their struggles: The co-founder conflicts that (almost?) tear companies apart. The ethical scandals and PR nightmares before they become breaking news. The imposter syndrome that keeps them up at night.

I’ve learned so much from these experiences that I honestly felt guilty keeping them to myself. There are so many leaders that could benefit from gleaning just a portion of these insights, I can’t keep them from you. And so this is my humble attempt to share 11 years of CEO leadership lessons with you in a bite-sized format.

And I’ll be honest: I’ve been hiding for years. I’ve had my own struggles with self-doubt, hesitations about putting myself out there as a “guru” that have held me back for too long—but I realized this isn’t about me.

Truth vs. Insight

Truth is overrated…

See, most people read newsletters searching for things that are true—or more precisely, things that they agree with. This is the well-known principle of confirmation bias, the human tendency to favor information that confirms our previously held beliefs. I’m sure you already see the problem with this…

When people read to find things they already agree with, there is no possibility for learning! You’re just re-confirming what you already know to be true.

That’s why most people stay stuck. But you’re different 😉 That’s why you joined the Kinetic Insight Newsletter.

See, truth is overrated..

I’m not talking about science, or the law, or who actually forgot to turn the stove off…

But in leadership, there is no objective truth

There is no “one right way” to lead. What worked for Martin Luther King Jr. wouldn’t work for Steve Jobs, and what works for Elon Musk probably won’t work for you.

And so any standard piece of advice (that so many “coaches” love to give) is inherently absent of context.

For example, “be bold!” is great advice for someone who tends to be shy. But for someone who tends to be more assertive, their attempts at boldness will likely bulldoze people and create resentment. It also might work well when asking for a raise, but not so much when negotiating with your board.

And so rather than reading this newsletter searching for what is “true,” I encourage you to focus on developing your personal insight.

How to Develop Breakthrough Insights 🤯 

In-sight, taken literally is about looking inside yourself. Seeing into your inner world for what is true subjectively, in your own experience.

To continue on the previous example: the thing that matters most—for your leadership—is not whether the advice “be bold” is true. It’s about how does boldness live inside of you?

  • What’s your natural tendency on a spectrum of boldness?

  • What comes up for you when you imagine being bold?

  • What impact do you have on others when you’re bold?

  • Where has your version of bold helped you so far?

  • Where has being bold gotten in your way?

Forget what is “true” for others, and focus on what is true for you.

And so for everything you read in the Kinetic Insight Newsletter over the coming weeks, months, and years, take a look inside of yourself and ask: 

“How might this apply to me?
Where could I most use this?
What about this could I improve on?
Where can I take action on this?”

That’s how you’ll get the most out of your subscription, and develop breakthrough insights.
